OBAMA ACCEPTS NOBEL PEACE PRIZE. NO REALLY!

Now that Barack Obama has actually accepted the Nobel Peace Prize I think Bob speaks for many people here and around the world in regards to this event:

On the other hand perhaps Obama winning the peace prize is a message of hope after all. As this fellow points out here:

OBAMA WINS AN AFFIRMATIVE ACTION NOBEL PEACE PRIZE

The Nobel Peace Prize Committee has finally managed to make the Nobel Peace Prize a joke by giving the award to President Obama whose only accomplishment so far has been to make speeches. This is a ridiculous nomination. At least former President Jimmy Carter won the award in the words of the Nobel Prize Committee press release: "decided to award the Nobel Peace Prize for 2002 to Jimmy Carter, for his decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development." What has Obama done? .... I can't wait for the spin on this one.

What should Obama do? Mickey Kaus has an excellent suggestion: TURN IT DOWN! As Kaus points out there is no downside for Obama to just say no:

"He gets at least the same amount of glory--and helps solve his narcissism problem and his Fred Armisen ('What's he done?') problem, demonstrating that he's uncomfortable with his reputation as a man overcelebrated for his potential long before he's started to realize it. ... Plus he doesn't have to waste time, during a fairly crucial period, working on yet another grand speech."

The question is will his ego and/or advisors let Obama follow this advice. I doubt it.
