COMPREHENSIVE IMMIGRATION REFORM JOKE #7: Slush Fund for Pro Illegal Immigration Groups

"The pro-amnesty lobbyists who helped craft the Schumer-Rubio immigration bill included within the bill two "slush funds" amounting to $150 million that may be supplemented with additional taxpayer dollars for years to come. Slush fund grantees are "public or private, non-profit organizations" described in the bill as including "a community, faith-based, or other immigrant-serving organization whose staff has demonstrated qualifications, experience, and expertise in providing quality services to immigrants, refugees, persons granted asylum, or persons applying for such statuses." In other words, the grantees would include many of the groups involved in writing and promoting the amnesty." -MORE HERE   

So let me get this straight those groups who helped, enabled and allowed illegal immigrants to evade the laws of the United States in the past will be getting millions of taxpayer dollars as a reward with Comprehensive Immigration Reform?

Shooting: American Civics?

There's breaking news about a gunman who entered into a building that houses the "American Civic Association" but, it seems this organization caters to immigrants both legal and illegal and is one of many "nonprofit immigrant helping organizations" that fly under the radar of the U.S. immigration law. But, of course they don't mind taking the donations from hard working American taxpayers who donate to groups like United Way. Over $30 thousand from that organization alone. Which is another reason not to donate to such organizations.

It's too early to tell if the gunman was a crazed American citizen fed up by the failure of the Federal Government to enforce U.S. immigration laws or some crazed immigrant pissed off because he did not get a green card. Whichever it is I wonder if we will ever find the reason for his madness.

Taking the profit out of Non Profit.

The Washington Post has an article about how the current economic downturn is affecting "non profit" organizations. Here are some of the money quotes:

"After nearly a decade of record growth, U.S. nonprofits are getting hit from all directions. Some foundations are scaling back on awarding grants as endowments shrink in the stock market meltdown. State and local governments -- facing falling tax revenue -- are slashing budgets and cutting back on funding."

"Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The mortgage finance giants have long been the Washington region's biggest corporate benefactors and gave a combined $47 million to charities last year. As a result of the federal takeover, Fannie and Freddie could decrease or halt their giving altogether, reshaping the area's philanthropic landscape. "

It's about time somebody looked at the money trail in the non profit sector. Non profits have been under the radar for so long just like the sub prime problems at Fannie Mae. It's time to take a good look at them and see who deserves to survive and is cost effective in providing needed services and who is just providing a "feel good" job for some liberal elites at taxpayer and donor expense.

Earmarks: Meet the new boss same as the old boss

"Even as House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer has joined in steps to clean up pork-barrel spending, the Maryland congressman has tucked $96 million worth of pet projects into next year's federal budget, including $450,000 for a campaign donor's foundation. "

It seems Democrat Hoyer is now one of the top ten earmark providers in Congress. So much for change now that the Democrats are in power. What kind of important projects is Hoyer funding with his ear marks?

"Consider the $450,000 that Hoyer inserted into a 2008 education spending bill for the California-based InTune Foundation Group, whose Web site describes it as a music-education nonprofit group.
In 2005, InTune got a previous earmark for nearly $500,000 to develop lesson plans on funk music and Nobel Peace laureates. Asked recently how effective that program had been, Education Department officials said they didn't know. InTune hadn't turned in a report on what it did, officials said. "

I think Leslie K. Paige of the watchdog group Citizens Against Government Waste says it best: "Don't we deserve to know where this money is going and who these people are?"
