OBAMA WAIVERING ON EDUCATION

"President Barack Obama is set to announce waivers that will free 10 states from the binding requirements of the No Child Left Behind law. The initiative, enacted during the George W. Bush administration, requires all states receiving federal education funding to test students’ basic skills in many grades."- Daily Caller

Once again the Obama Administration makes failure on option as a Federal Government policy. If it's not Immigration law enforcement, it's waivers for Obama Care and now even education policy is being watered down. This seems to show that the Federal Government is not up to the job of enforcing it's standards and laws. At least the Obama Administration isn't.

AND THE PROBLEM IS?

"BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (AP)Hispanic students have started vanishing from Alabama public schools in the wake of a court ruling that upheld the state's tough new law cracking down on illegal immigration."

I and think most taxpayers would welcome if were to happen in our communities. What the liberal Dumbocrats and some Republicrats in Washington don't seem to understand is we taxpayers are tired of rewarding the illegal immigrants at all levels. First they have no respect for our immigration laws and then we taxpayers have to PAY to educate their kids. We've had enough of this nonsense!

DREAMERS AND IDIOTS!

Well I and many other Americans beat back another Liberal Dumbocratic and pro illegal immigrant piece of legislation. The so called DREAM Act sponsored by Senator Dick (dumb) Durbin in the Senate and Congressman Howard Berman in the House went down to defeat yesterday in the Senate. They called it the "Dream" Act but, it would  really be a nightmare for the United States if it was passed. It really was a back door amnesty program wraped up in a bleeding heart Liberal argument. The pro amnesty groups and Liberal Dumbocrats used the so called "children" of illegal immigrants as sympathy pawns to push this legislation. Which our dumbocratic President Obama called "a down payment on comprehensive immigration reform" aka amnesty for millions of other illegal immigrants. But, as Mickey Kaus points out the argument to pass this legislation was really a bunch of nonsense. Here is the money quote:

"Isn't there something a bit discordant about using posters of brilliant undocumented college and law students while you are complaining that without the DREAM Act undocumented kids won't be able to get an education? Obviously it's at least possible to get a college education, and some undocumented kids take good advantage of it. The effect is a little like those ads on your TV demonstrating how great your picture would be if you bought a new TV"

Indeed. Let's not forget that these illegal immigrant poster children used by Liberal Dumbocrats have already benefited immensely by getting a primary and secondary school education on the American Taxpayers dime already. Somehow even the word ungrateful does not seem to cut it when I see the same illegal immigrant children protesting in the streets because they now want citizenship as well.

Well, enough of the "Dreamers" let's move on to the idiots. This includes my elected Representatives Senators Chuck Schumer, Kirsten Gillibrand and Congressman Tim Bishop who will all be hearing from me in various media about their idiotic decision to vote for this legislation. The other idiots include President Obama who said it was "common sense" to pass this legislation. NO! Common sense says you don't reward illegality because you will get more of it!  Senator Jeff Sessions nailed it with this statement:

“This bill is a law that at its fundamental core is a reward for illegal activity.”

I agree with Sessions and so do most of the Senators who were able to stop this bill from moving forward!  Now how about some real enforcement of our immigration laws!

The pursuit of...?

Ann Applebaum has an interesting op-ed about the overworked and over achievement of today's kids and the parents who raise them. One is constantly reminded that today's kids are over confident know nothings that need to be questioned carefully. I was reminded last night at dinner at a restaurant here in Washington DC. We asked the young perky waitress if they still had any Lobster specials (our favorite dish at this restaurant and one that is frequently sold out) Oh sure she said confidently. So we were looking forward to that meal when after the appetizers she came back with: "I am so sorry...." The restaurant of course did not have any more Lobster. This is not the first time this has happened with the young confident responding wait staff. They often sound so confident but, often really don't know the answers. As Applebaum writes:
"Thus our kids are both stupider than we were and harder working -- though perhaps this makes sense. America is, after all, the industrialized country with the fewest paid vacations, as well as the only nation, as far as I know, that considers the "pursuit of happiness" a fundamental right. We invented both the assembly line and the modern notion of "leisure"

Hola sucker taxpayers they want more of your money!

Once again the hidden costs of illegal immigration are about to reach into the pockets of American taxpayers if teachers unions like the NEA and pro illegal immigration groups have anything to do with it. Today's Washington Post had an article about how Hispanic children are reaching kindergarten with educational levels behind those of other students. And of course the teachers lobby and pro illegal immigrant groups want "new programs" to reach these children. Which of course means more taxpayer dollars out of U.S. taxpayers wallets! Here are some of the money quotes:

"Targeted programs and increased outreach to Hispanic families can make a difference, a point stressed by Garcia's task force and the National Education Association, a teachers union. The stakes are high because about one of every five children in the United States younger than 8, about 6.8 million in all, was Hispanic in 2000, experts say. The percentage is likely to grow, fueled by immigration and birthrates."

Translation: More money for programs for Hispanic out reach because the Hispanic illegal population have more children than other ethnic groups. How about this idea? Enforce immigration law and border security. There will be less illegal Hispanics costing local taxpayers precious school dollars for these specialized outreach programs. Saving U.S. taxpayers money.

""We talk about the high dropout rates of the Latino population and the achievement gap," said Michael L. Lopez, executive director of the National Center for Latino Child & Family Research in the District. "If we think it's bad now, what happens when the population continues to grow and we don't do anything about it?"

We can do something else Mr. Lopez. We can enforce our immigration laws and border security so their will be less illegals that U.S. taxpayers will be subsidizing and are burdened with educating.

What about the children and the country's future?

Stacy Garfinkle in her On Parenting blog in the Washington Post references a report about which countries do the best job in raising children. According to the report the U.S. and Britain are 20th and 21st. Here are some of the money quotes:

"The U.S. has the largest percentage of children living in households with equivalent income less than 50 percent of the nation's median. It has the largest number of 11-, 13-, and 15-year-olds living in single-parent households and in step-families. More U.S. teens give birth than their peers in any other country on the list. The U.S. has one of the worst infant mortality rates and low birth-weight rates."

and then there was this real money quote:

"While there were some interesting conclusions, such as that the study's authors found no obvious link between a country's wealth and the well-being of the country's children, many of the results point to one key difference between the Northern European countries and the U.S. -- diversity."

But, Ms. Garfinkle continues to ignore the 800 pound gorilla in the room with the following statement:

"Though they have their strengths, the Northern European countries listed in the report are much more homogenous in race and culture than the U.S. I, for one, am not ready to say that my family would be better off living there. Our kids gain more than they lose by living in a country of diverse culture, race, religion, language and backgrounds so long as we keep their minds open to learning from each other."

Certainly a diverse culture from various ethnic groups can nourish the country. But, Garfinkle puts on the liberal blinders with such statements "as long as we keep our minds open". That's fine but, we can't allow our borders to be as open as they are now either. Because the "diversity" Garfinkle extols can also drag the country down as the statistics regarding the dropout rate of Hispanic immigrants show that 44% drop out of high school. For native born Hispanics the rate is 16%. Garfinkle and many others in the country fail to realize that the United States will not easily move forward if we continue to allow more illegals into the country only to become part of an increasingly uneducated workforce.

Knock my socks off?

The White House spinmeisters have been promoting that the President Bush's State of the Union speech tonight will "knock our socks off" Yeah right! As always it's easy for Bush to talk but, many times he does not do the walk. Remember this line from last years State of the Union:
"America is addicted to oil."
Really, George? Now what has been done by you in the past year to correct that?
The White House is also talking that the speech will address issues like immigration. here's an idea George, how about about enforcing the laws already on the books.
Then there is education where where he is supposed to extend the No Child Left Behind program to high schools. Great just what the middle class taxpayer needs. A new Federal program put forward by the bumbler in chief that will raise our local school taxes even more.
Though perhaps President Bush will mention something about Iraq tonight. Something bold and dramatic like renaming the country FUBAR.
