TERRORIST ON TRIAL ERIC HOLDER'S "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED"

There's a lot of questioning about Attorney General Eric Holder's strange decision to put a number of the terrorists on trail in a civilian court in New York. On the face of it seems to be a very strange idea. Until you start to dig deeper as Michelle Malkin has been doing here are some of the money quotes from her reporting:

"If you’ve been paying attention, you already know all about AG Eric Holder and his DOJ staff’s national security conflict of interest as senior partner with Covington & Burling — the prestigious Washington, D.C. law firm, which represents 17 Yemenis currently held at Gitmo."

"The Senate shrugged at the glaring conflict of interest Attorney General Holder presents in handling Gitmo legal issues. Lieutenant Colonel Gordon Cucullu, author of Inside Gitmo: The True Story Behind the Myths of Guantanamo Bay, makes the ethical problem plain:

As a senior partner, he undoubtedly had significant input on what kind of charity cases his firm picked up. He surely knew that dozens of lawyers from his firm were among the 500-plus civilian lawyers representing the 244 or so remaining detainees (on top of military-court-appointed defenders). Even now, his Covington colleagues continue to allege rampant torture at Gitmo. They’re fighting hard to have detainees tried through the US court system—essentially given the same rights as US citizens. And their arguments and plans hinge largely on having Holder issue a bad report card."

Somehow I would waste any time waiting for Keith Olbermann to make a "special comment" on this.

What's that fishy smell at the Justice Department

The Bush Administration is trying to defend the firing of seven U.S. attorneys late last year. One of the laughable reasons they gave is because the attorneys did not carry out Bush's policies on certain issues. From the Washington Post:

"The White House approved the firings of seven U.S. attorneys late last year after senior Justice Department officials identified the prosecutors they believed were not doing enough to carry out President Bush's policies on immigration, firearms and other issues, White House and Justice Department officials said yesterday."

Bush's policy on immigration? What a laugh! There is no policy on immigration except to allow millions of illegal immigrants to continue to break the law. Even convicted illegal immigrant fugitives can hide in plain sight for months like Elvira Arellano with no action by the Department of Justice and the Bush administration. Of course the Justice Department under Bush's former legal waterboy Alberto R(aza) Gonzales seems to have plenty of time and resources to railroad U.S. border agents and other law enforcement officers protecting U.S. borders.

The Justice Department received several letters dating to 2005 and signed by more than a dozen California lawmakers, mostly Republicans, raising concerns about then-U.S. Attorney Carol S. Lam's approach to prosecuting immigration cases. Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, a Democrat, also wrote Gonzales in June, saying that the "low prosecution rates have a demoralizing effect on the men and women patrolling our nation's borders."

How about the millions of letters emails and phone calls the White House has received by U.S. citizens complaining about illegal immigrantion issues in our communities. Well, the fish rots from the head. As far as the lack of action by the attorneys on the problem on lack of enforcement on illegal immigration. It is the direct result of the lack leadership of the Attorney General Alberto R(aza) Gonzales. If there is anyone who should be fired it is Attorney General Gonzales!

Strange things are happening.

The U.S. Attorney for San Diego Carol Lam has resigned. It seems she did not jump she was pushed. Lam was the U.S. Attorney who prosecuted the corrupt criminal Congressman Randy "Duke" Cunningham. Who received millions of dollars in bribes from military defense contractors.
What is really interesting are the comments from a Republican Congressman in California named Darrell Issa. Here is some background:

"In a Tuesday phone interview from his Washington office, U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Vista, said Lam was asked to step down. Issa declined to name the source of the information, but said "it was a high-ranking administration official involved in the decision process."

Hmmm... What really made me laugh was Issa's past criticism of Lam:

"For years, Issa has been critical of Lam for what he said was her failure to more aggressively prosecute illegal-immigrant smugglers."And I have had one-on-one conversations with Ms. Lam, urging her to be more aware of the policy priority that the president has given," he said, referring to Bush's promises to secure the nation's borders."

"In an October 2005 letter to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, for example, Issa blasted Lam's office for failing to prosecute two cases of smugglers who were repeat offenders. In the letter, Issa called her failure to do so the result of "lax prosecutorial standard."

This is hysterical. Apparently, this idiot Issa does not have a clue that the failure to prosecute illegal immigrant smugglers let alone illegal immigrants starts with the policies of George W. Bush and his legal water boy and Attorney General Alberto R(aza) Gonzales. Who are both failing to secure our nations borders and continue to allow illegal immigrants to roam around our country with impunity. They are the ones who should be resigning!
