OBAMA IS HALFWAY THERE

Hard to tell if a New York Times article is just a PR piece for the Obama administration or a chronicle of a REAL effort by the Obama Administration to start to enforce our immigration laws. But, hopefully it will have a deterrent effect to those businesses that hire illegal immigrants. But, the article also shows that the Obama Administration does the job only halfway: Here are the money quotes:

"But at the arraignment days later in federal court here, no immigrant workers stood before the judge. The only criminal defendants were the owners, Mark Evenson and his son Christopher, and an accountant who worked with them, Diane Ingrid Strehlow. If the Evensons are convicted on all charges against them of tax fraud and harboring illegal workers, they each could face more than 80 years in jail."

I would hope those businesses and their accountants who do try to evade the law do some serious time along with some severe financial financial penalties.  In this case the IRS should also come down hard on them:

"The two of them, who are brothers, said they came to the United States from Mexico in the 1990s. Both had worked most of the time since in Chuy’s restaurants. The eldest, Alejandro Díaz Ojeda, 36, learned to cook the Chuy’s menu. Then he taught his brother, Javier, who is 30. The brothers said they had been treated well. “I became very fond of the company,” Javier said.
Their experience, however, suggests how the Evensons kept their menu prices famously low. The brothers said they were paid an hourly wage — Javier made $9.50 after 14 years — by payroll check for the first 40 hours a week. Any overtime was paid with a different check, with no taxes deducted and no higher rate, they said. Both brothers said they often worked 70 hours a week.

It seems these brothers were not only working here illegally but, evading taxes also! But, they were let go scott free while they pursue their attempt to get citizenship. WTF! I'd like to not pay taxes on any hours I worked after 40 for 14 years! I guess only illegal immigrants can get away with that without the IRS coming after them. File that under "Hola suckers".

REMEMBERING GIL SCOTT-HERON

Back in the eighties and nineties I was an activist fighting the Shoreham Nuclear Power Plant. Those were the pre Chenolbyl and Fukishima days. It was truly an epic battle that ultimately we who were against the plant won. During those days Gil Scott-Heron's song WE ALMOST LOST DETRIOT was part of the musical battle cry we fighting nuclear plants used in the fight. Gil Scott Heron died yesterday at age 62 from self inflicted drug wounds.  Sad but, I will always remember his haunting rendition of the song and the book of the same name by John G. Fuller.  RIP Gil Scott Heron and thank you.

Gil Scott Heron said "the revolution will not be televised" but, he never said anything about disasters concerning nuclear power. Like what happened at the Japananese plants whose hydrogen explosions were seen by hundreds of millions of people around the globe.

TAKING OUT THE TRASH WITH BARNEY FRANK

Always good to check the news on Saturday that's when the important news is published that could be embarrising to the government and various politicians. It's called "taking out the trash" Release the stories on Friday (or say right before a holiday weekend like today) in the hopes that the people won't notice as they get ready for the weekend.  Today's Washington Post has an item concerning Fannie Mae's  favorite Congressman Barney "bailout" Frank.  It seems the Associated Press and the Washington Post made sure this little conflict of interest item does not get to much of a high profile and notice:

"WASHINGTON — Rep. Barney Frank says he helped his then-domestic partner land a job with Fannie Mae in the 1990s while Frank was serving on the House panel overseeing the mortgage company."-Washington Post

The Washington Post buried this item in the lower left hand corner of page A7. How long do the American people have to put up with corruption of politicans like Barney Frank?  It seems "reporters" are intimidated by politicians like Frank also.  Which is another reason why journalism is failing the American people these days too!

ABOUT THOSE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS PRESIDENT OBAMA

Following up on President Obama's empty rhetoric speech in El Paso concerning his plans for amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants. Michelle Malkin tears his ideas apart here are some of the money quotes:

"President Obama argues that his comprehensive amnesty plan would boost America’s bottom line. But the open-borders math doesn’t add up. The Congressional Budget Office score of the last DREAM Act package estimates that “the bill would increase projected deficits by more than $5 billion in at least one of the four consecutive 10-year periods starting in 2021.” And that doesn’t include the costs of all the unlimited family members that the millions of DREAM Act beneficiaries would be able to bring to the U.S. A separate cost analysis by the Washington, D.C.-based Center for Immigration Studies concluded that the illegal alien DREAM Act bailout would cost taxpayers $6.2 billion a year and “crowd out” U.S. students in the classroom."

Meanwhile the Obama administration continues to make FAILURE part of the procedure in day to day operations in order to some how "broken" the system is:

"Unfortunately for the law-abiding, there is no Hollywood-Washington-Big Labor lobby to speak for them. While Obama’s homeland security officials hang their “mission accomplished” banner over the border, the feds have barely made a dent in the three-year naturalization application backlog or the 400,000-deportation fugitive problem. Meanwhile, law enforcement witnesses told a House subcommittee last month that border smuggling has grown so out of control that federal prosecutors are simply declining to pursue cases. Cochise County, Arizona Sheriff Larry Dever testified about the feds’ so-called “Turn Back South” policy – which includes lowering thresholds for drug and smuggling prosecutions, and permitting border-crossers at least seven strikes before being charged with immigration misdemeanors. And just last week, the General Accounting Office reported another massive 1.6 million backlog of illegal visa overstayers – a problem exposed by five of the 19 September 11 hijackers who benefited from systemic failure to enforce visa regulations."

That's the Obama plan in a nutshell when it comes to the Federal Government doing something about illegal immigration:

OBAMA & ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION: UNDER WHOSE FLAG?

One wonders if the Obama advance team is just stupid or was it planned that President Obama would give another speech about his plan to offer illegal immingrants amnesty under the backdrop of a huge Mexican flag that flies just across the border from El Paso in Mexico.  Interestingly the flag was taken down after Obama finished his speech.

OBAMA ON ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION & ANOTHER PUSH FOR AMNESTY

Our Hispandera in chief President Barrack Obama is once again adding to his carbon footprint and traveling down to Texas today to push for "immigration reform". He is once again saying it's time to "fix" our "broken immigration system". What he and others who are pushing for an amnesty for the millions of illegals keep forgetting is:

MEMO TO PRESIDENT OBAMA:

The immigration system is not broken! All it needs is an emphasis on enforcement. Something that the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT is FAILING at. We don't need immigration reform we just need the Federal Government to do it's job. I can find illegal immigrants here in my neighborhood on Long Island the Federal Government should be able to find them too if only you would look.

Obama also wants to pass the "DREAM ACT" where the illegal immigrant children who have benefited from an ill gotten education at U.S. taxpayers expense get the added reward of getting citizenship. File that under WTF?  It would be a better policy to DEPORT THE DREAMERS back to their original countries where they could thrive and that country could benefit from their education. They have already shown they are not exactly model citizens. We should think of this program of repatriating the illegal immigrant students as an "undocumented" Peace Corp program.

Obama is just going down the  amnesty road like so many other dumbcratic liberals. Like Ted Kennedy whose words over the years show how wrong this Liberal thinking on illegal immgration is:

1965: "The bill will not flood our cities with immigrants. It will not upset the ethnic mix of our society. It will not relax the standards of admission. It will not cause American workers to lose their jobs."

1986: "This amnesty will give citizenship to only 1.1 to 1.3 million illegal aliens. We will secure the borders henceforth. We will never again bring forward another amnesty bill like this."

2007: "Now it is time for action. 2007 is the year we must fix our broken system."

What the late Ted Kennedy and President Obama don't seem to understand that the American people are not buying this nonsense anymore!

OSAMA IS NOT THE ONLY THING THAT'S DEAD!

I can not remember the last time I picked up and read an article from the New York Times.  A new documentary called PAGE ONE is coming out that looks at one year at the New York Times. Looking at the trailer I think it will show the denial that is occurring in much of the old media organizations. News organizations like the New York Times are in the same place network radio was in the nineteen fifties. They can't believe that they are not relevant anymore. When someone like Sohaib Athar can tweet about the raid on the Osama Bin Ladin's compound Sunday before a New York Times reporter based in Pakistan has even woken up and picked up their phone the handwriting is on the wall. Hell, I was blogging in China on a boat floating down the Yangstee River in 2005. I even think I got a question from Brian Stelter (now at the New York Times) about it when he was a student at Towson University and writing TV Newser at the time. Between, bloggers, tweets and You Tube one can get a pretty good idea of what is going on without the bias of the Liberal editors getting in the way. Every individual can decide what news is relevant for them and not have to wait for the 10:30 editors meeting at the New York Times to make that decision. That is a good thing for society but, unfortunately not for old media organizations like the New York Times.
