While Gonzales Gate at DOJ is an important issue about how the Bush administration has politicized the Department of Justice. An even more important issue concerns the FBI and how even with procedures in place they have failed to follow the law regarding Nation Security letters. While the FBI and Gonzales asked for and were granted stream line procedures for FBI investigations it seems the FBI was not even able to obey theses laws. Here is the money quote from Arlen Spector:"At a minimum, there was a reckless disregard for the requirements of law."
Congress should investigate this situation thoroughly. When those who are suppose to enforce the law don't follow it themselves then people will lose all respect for the system of justice.
