Southampton: The rich, the stupid and the illegal.

Southampton Long Island is one of the wealthier communities in the country. The grand estates and homes of some very wealthy people inhabit it's boundaries. But, being rich does not necessarily mean they are smart or that those that they elect are the smartest either. Case in point is Southampton's Mayor Mark Epley who announced that Village will establish an area where illegal immigrants can gather to solicit work from unscrupulous employers who hire them in violation of U.S. law.
But, of course this illegal activity has to be hidden:
"Friday, village workers planted trees around the outside of the site so motorists will not clearly see in. White spray paint marked the U-shaped path where gravel will be laid so contractors and homeowners can pull in to pick up workers."- Newsday
Mayor Epley justifies his action thus:
"I'm not the IRS and I'm not the INS, my responsibility is to my residents."
Hmmm, setting up a government sanctioned place where illegal immigrants and the people who hire them illegally can continue to break the law is Mayor Epley's idea of good government.
Perhaps Mayor Epley should also set up an area where criminal burglers could also sell the goods they stole in their burglaries too. Why not? It makes as much sense as sanctioning the illegal immigrant activity in his community.

Clearly, not many people bother to read your rantings, however, I came across your site by chance so let me be the first to respond: you're an idiot.

We are facing an onslaught of unwanted visitors to Southampton - Let's call it the White Trash Invasion. Not happy to waste away their days in Farmingville and beyond, these gun-toting, beer-swilling, klansman (commonly referred to as minimen) have decided to grace our village with their malodorous presence. HMMM, let's see, what would we rather see as we enter Southampton: Hardworking, honest immigrants who keep are economy afloat - or white trash, unemployed, high-school dropouts who only want to blame others for their wasted lives? Sounds like an easy choice to me. Hug an immigrant, kick a miniman.

Well anon:
Funny how you praise the hardworking "honest" immigrants while ignoring the violation of U.S. immigration laws they broke when they came into the United States. Yes they maybe hardworking but, they are illegal immigrants just the same. Gee,what other laws can people ignore? I love the logic of the limo liberals of Southampton. You can violate immigration laws of the United States but, don't you dare park on our streets!
Maybe the answer is for those of us on Long Island who really don't want people who have no respect for U.S. immigration laws in our communities should print up flyers to give to the local illegals showing the way to Southampton. You'll welcome them I'm sure with hugs.
