Southampton: The rich, the stupid and the illegal.

Southampton Long Island is one of the wealthier communities in the country. The grand estates and homes of some very wealthy people inhabit it's boundaries. But, being rich does not necessarily mean they are smart or that those that they elect are the smartest either. Case in point is Southampton's Mayor Mark Epley who announced that Village will establish an area where illegal immigrants can gather to solicit work from unscrupulous employers who hire them in violation of U.S. law.
But, of course this illegal activity has to be hidden:
"Friday, village workers planted trees around the outside of the site so motorists will not clearly see in. White spray paint marked the U-shaped path where gravel will be laid so contractors and homeowners can pull in to pick up workers."- Newsday
Mayor Epley justifies his action thus:
"I'm not the IRS and I'm not the INS, my responsibility is to my residents."
Hmmm, setting up a government sanctioned place where illegal immigrants and the people who hire them illegally can continue to break the law is Mayor Epley's idea of good government.
Perhaps Mayor Epley should also set up an area where criminal burglers could also sell the goods they stole in their burglaries too. Why not? It makes as much sense as sanctioning the illegal immigrant activity in his community.

From the hello sucker taxpayers files.

There was a photo op at the White house with President Bush on Monday with the heads of the U.S. auto makers and the Secretary of Transportation. This little meeting was no doubt arranged by Bush's former chief of staff Andrew Card who just happened to be a former lobbyist for the automakers.
Here is the money quote:
"One of the things that I think it's important for American taxpayers to understand is that we're using some of their dollars to promote new technologies, and we're working with these CEOs and their respective companies to advance new technologies." -President Bush
TRANSLATION: I just wanted to tell the American Taxpayers that we are giving these automakers some corporate welfare because they want the money instead of spending their own. Besides I owe them and this is how I pay them back. Thanks sucker taxpayers!
I wonder how much money the Bush administration gave Toyota to develop the revolutionary Prius car. How much did that cost U.S. taxpayers? The U.S. automakers should be ashamed to accept this corporate welfare because it really amounts to we taxpayers subsidizing their research & design efforts. That is not capitalism that is corporate welfare!

As a life long registered Democrat I've been trying to find a candidate to support for President. So far I've yet to see anyone on the Democratic side who is not pandering to the pro-illegal immigrant groups/lobbyists while they continue to ignore middle class peoples concerns regarding the illegal immigration problem and costs in their communities.
The Republicans on the other hand have several candidates from Ron Paul (a Republican who also voted against the war) to Tom Tancredo who has been a leader against amnesty proposals that reward illegals who have violated our immigration laws.
Now the Washington Post reports that Republican Fred Thompson may enter the fray. I think the Democrats and Republicans like McCain should be very afraid. Thompson seems to be the most centered of the candidates of all the people running Republican or Democrat. An example of Thompson's no nonsense stand on illegal immigration:
"I think its time for a little plain talk to the leaders of Mexico. Something like: hey guys, you’re our friends and neighbors and we love you but it’s time you had a little dose of reality.
A sovereign nation loses that status if it cannot secure its own borders and we are going to do whatever is necessary to do so, although our policies won’t be as harsh as yours are along your southern border. And criticizing the U.S. for alternately doing too much and too little to stop your illegal activities is not going to set too well with Americans of good will who are trying to figure a way out of the mess that your and our open borders policy has already created. A reckless disregard for the law!

While Gonzales Gate at DOJ is an important issue about how the Bush administration has politicized the Department of Justice. An even more important issue concerns the FBI and how even with procedures in place they have failed to follow the law regarding Nation Security letters. While the FBI and Gonzales asked for and were granted stream line procedures for FBI investigations it seems the FBI was not even able to obey theses laws. Here is the money quote from Arlen Spector:

"At a minimum, there was a reckless disregard for the requirements of law."
Congress should investigate this situation thoroughly. When those who are suppose to enforce the law don't follow it themselves then people will lose all respect for the system of justice.

Illegal Immigration: The cause and effect.

Middle class taxpayers like myself wonder why the illegal immigration problem could have reached such levels in our communities. The problem points to the Federal Government. The recent release of documents by the Justice Department in the firing of the eight U.S. Attorneys shows a smoking gun:

"Guidelines issued by U.S. attorneys in Texas showed that most illegal immigrants crossing into the state had to be arrested at least six times before federal authorities would prosecute them, according to an internal Justice Department memo.
The disclosure provides a rare view of how federal authorities attempt to curb illegal immigration. The memo was released this week in response to a congressional investigation of the dismissals of eight U.S. attorneys."- Washington Post

Popping Bloombergs balloon.

New York's billionaire elitist mayor Mike Bloomberg is once again it seems testing the waters for an independent presidential bid in 2008. The problem for Bloomberg is if he won he would have to take an oath to preserve, protect and defend the United States. But, since he is already breaking U.S. law with his "sanctuary policy" for illegal immigrants who come to New York. The idea of President Bloomberg would be a disgrace since he has already shown such disregard for U.S. laws already.

Hola sucker taxpayers they want more of your money!

Once again the hidden costs of illegal immigration are about to reach into the pockets of American taxpayers if teachers unions like the NEA and pro illegal immigration groups have anything to do with it. Today's Washington Post had an article about how Hispanic children are reaching kindergarten with educational levels behind those of other students. And of course the teachers lobby and pro illegal immigrant groups want "new programs" to reach these children. Which of course means more taxpayer dollars out of U.S. taxpayers wallets! Here are some of the money quotes:

"Targeted programs and increased outreach to Hispanic families can make a difference, a point stressed by Garcia's task force and the National Education Association, a teachers union. The stakes are high because about one of every five children in the United States younger than 8, about 6.8 million in all, was Hispanic in 2000, experts say. The percentage is likely to grow, fueled by immigration and birthrates."

Translation: More money for programs for Hispanic out reach because the Hispanic illegal population have more children than other ethnic groups. How about this idea? Enforce immigration law and border security. There will be less illegal Hispanics costing local taxpayers precious school dollars for these specialized outreach programs. Saving U.S. taxpayers money.

""We talk about the high dropout rates of the Latino population and the achievement gap," said Michael L. Lopez, executive director of the National Center for Latino Child & Family Research in the District. "If we think it's bad now, what happens when the population continues to grow and we don't do anything about it?"

We can do something else Mr. Lopez. We can enforce our immigration laws and border security so their will be less illegals that U.S. taxpayers will be subsidizing and are burdened with educating.

Gonzales is protecting what?

According to the Washington Post Attorney General Alberto R(aza) Gonzales spoke yesterday and said :

"I'm not going to resign," "I'm going to stay focused on protecting our kids." - 3/22/07

Of course he did not say anything about protecting the U.S. borders. In fact when it comes to protecting the United States the Justice Department under Raza Gonzales has been hurting the U.S. justice not enforcing it.

Whether it is prosecuting U.S. Border Patrol agents
Jose Alonso Compean and Ignacio Ramos. Including ignoring evidence at their trial like having the Department of Homeland Security lie about evidence.
Or prosecuting other law enforcement border agents like Edwards County Deputy Sheriff
Guillermo F. Hernandez.
Meanwhile fugitives like
Elvira Arellano are hiding in plain site in Chicago and Alberto R(aza) Gonzales does not lift a finger to see that justice is done in that case. So when Gonzales he needs to "protect our kids" someone needs to kick his butt and say NO! You are supposed to protect the United States period and that includes our borders and those bringing to justice people like Ms. Arellano who make a mockery of justice. But, obviously Gonzales is more interested in protecting the illegal immigrants who violate our laws than protecting our borders.

McCain and other pro amnesty pols are starting to feel the heat!

I was wondering when the mainstream media was going to finally connect the dots to the real reason why a Republican conservative candidate like John McCain has been losing ground in his race for the White House. Yesterday in a New York Times front page story by Adam Nagourney finally explained the real reason. It was not his stand on Iraq it was McCain's involvement with the likes of Senator Ted Kennedy to attempt to push through congress an amnesty bill for the millions of illegal aliens who have invaded many parts of the country. At political events illegal immigration has been the hot topic so much so that the Times has had to mention it. Even McCain has had to admit that he might have to rethink his stance on the bill that the Democrats are trying to fabricate behind closed doors ala Dick Cheney's Energy Task Force. Well, it is not working and the American taxpayers and voters are waking up and will hold the politicians like McCain accountable for the failure of the Federal Government to protect the U.S. borders and the lack of action against the illegal immigrants who blatantly ignore U.S. immigration law and burden local taxpayers with school and social services expenses. This issue will only get hotter When even liberal papers like the New York Times begin to take notice you know the issue has reached a critical point and it's time for more middle class taxpayers to turn up the heat on pols like McCain and anyone else Republican or Democrat who wants to reward any illegal immigrant who broke U.S. immigration laws with amnesty.

The New York Times ignores the facts and the costs of illegal immigration.

The New York Times had an editorial called The Medicaid Documentation Mess NYT 3/19/07. Where they complained that since the Deficit Reduction Act passed last year which contained provisions requiring applicants for Medicaid to show proof of their citizenship when they apply for, or seek to renew coverage. The Times points out that since the requirements went into effect at least seven states have reported declines in Medicaid enrollment and traced them to the new requirements. That is good new for middle class U.S. taxpayers who pay the bills for the Medicaid program but, that's not good news for the New York Times. The Times complains that because of the requirements many illegal immigrants may not be applying for Medicaid to pay for the births of their anchor babies. It seems the Times wants to make sure U.S. taxpayers pay as much as possible and pay the bills of those who violate U.S. laws. But, as is usually the case in the mainstream liberal media the Times completely ignores the costs of illegal immigration to hardworking U.S. taxpayers who must pay the costs.

Small's big expenses at the Smithsonian

We U.S. taxpayers help support national institutions like the Smithsonian. There was the secret sweetheart deal the institution made with Showtime Networks and now comes the revelations of expenses and the money that it doled out to it's chief officer. Both deserve some scrutiny.

"Internal Smithsonian documents offer a glimpse into what one senator called the "Dom Perignon" lifestyle of the taxpayer-supported institution's chief official, who turned in a $15,000 receipt for the replacement of French doors at his home and spent $48,000 for two chairs, a conference table and upholstery for his office suite."-Washington Post

Congress needs to start digging to see how these deals came to be.

Hypocrisy on Immigration? How about enforcement!

The latte licking liberals in the editorial offices of the Washington Post really made me laugh with today's editorial Hypocrisy on Immigration. They complain when the government does not do enough in situations like occurred at the Walter Reed Medical Center and now they complain when the government does the right thing and actually tries to enforce it's laws. Which happened last week when Immigration and Custom enforcement arrested 360 illegal immigrants working unlawfully in a leather goods factory. The real hypocrisy is elite liberal media outlets like the Washington Post editorial board who have no problem with illegals breaking U.S. laws for years. Meanwhile, the Post editorials remain silent about the costs of illegal immigrants in local communities and the burden on middle class tax payers who are forced to pay higher taxes to subsidize the illegal workforce with programs like WIC which are used by businesses that cater to the illegal immigrant population.

The cloud of smoke behind speedy Gonzales.

I wrote over a week ago that there was a fishy smell coming out of the Department of Justice. Well, by Tuesday everybody was beginning to smell it. Including some Republicans like Senator John Sununu. You knew something was up when George W. Bush's legal water boy and current Attorney General Alberto R(aza) Gonzales was so quick to apologize about the failure of the FBI to follow the procedures of the Patriot Act in spying on American citizens and also admit that "mistakes were made" in the firing of the eight U.S. attorney's but, of course Gonzales was not in the loop. Yeah right! I'm thinking there is much more to this story so Congressional investigators should start digging and Alberto Gonzales should start packing to leave.

Bush speaks but still does not listen!

President Bush on his tour of Latin America stopped in Guatemala where he spoke on immigration issues. Here are some of the money quotes:

"The system needs to be fixed,"

No, Mr. President the laws need to be enforced and the borders secured and protected!

"The president's visit put him in the awkward position of defending tough new enforcement actions and expanded barriers along the southern U.S. border while assuring Latin Americans that he remains committed to not expelling from the United States most illegal immigrants. President Oscar Berger pressed him about recent deportations of Guatemalans that upset a country where 10 percent of its population has moved north of the Rio Grande.
"I'm sure they don't want to be sent home," Bush said during an appearance with Berger at the National Palace. "But nevertheless we enforce laws."

Enforce our laws? Like your are doing with convicted felons like Elvira Arellano?

Another death by illegal immigration.

I hope New Haven, Connecticut Mayor Destefano who just made New Haven a "Sanctuary City" for illegal immigrants read this story in the city's local paper. Here are the money quotes:

"New Haven man who may be an illegal immigrant is being held in lieu of $1 million bail for the vehicular death of West Haven minister Alan B. Broome, whom state police say he hit Feb. 5 while driving the wrong way on Interstate 91. "
Israel Quintero, 29, of 981 Ella Grasso Blvd., was released from Yale-New Haven Hospital Monday morning and was immediately arrested for second-degree manslaughter while intoxicated and a host of other charges, said state police Lt. J. Paul Vance.
"We believe he’s here improperly," Vance said."

Improperly? Lieutenant Vance! How about illegally! Or maybe that's offensive to the pro illegal advocates in New Haven and Mayor Destefano

"Alan Broome’s wife, Renee Broome of West Haven, became angry Monday when she heard the man who allegedly killed her husband of nine years may not be a legal citizen.
"I’m shocked. I’m really shocked. When I heard he was here illegally, it put more fuel on the fire. Everybody has the right to be here, but do it the legal way. He took my life from me, my livelihood, my spiritual partner," Renee Broome said of her husband."

I wonder if Mayor Destefano just looks upon the death Alan Broome as part of the cost of having illegal immigrants in New Haven. With his approval of the Sanctuary policy he will certainly being seeing more of them and maybe more deaths of legal Connecticut citizens.

Will NPR win a BCP Orwellian Journalism award?

For the second week in a row a story on illegal immigration on National Public Radio's afternoon news program ALL THINGS CONSIDERED showed the bias of this news organization and it's reporter Jennifer Ludden. Instead of using terms like "illegal immigrant" to describe people who have broken U.S. Immigration law. The NPR reports tend to use terms like workers with "no status", "undocumented workers", " undocumented foreigners" making it sound that they left their wallets at home instead of violated U.S. law. With the biased Orwellian NPR newspeak on an issue like illegal immigration. I expect to hear NPR reporters describe a burgler as a "uninvited house guest"

The White House of sand and fog.

We can only hope that the those who work in the White House and for the Bush administration begin to realize that there are consequences to lying as Scooter Libby has found out. Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald was spot on in calling what Libby did a "corrupt endeavor". It is ironic that the guilty verdicts for Scooter Fibby came down on March 6 2007. Four years earlier on March 6 2003 President Bush held his last press conference before the U.S. went to war in Iraq. At the press conference Bush said:

"We care about the suffering of the Iraqi people. I mentioned in my opening comments that there's a lot of food ready to go in. There's something like 55,000 oil-for-food distribution points in Iraq. We know where they are. We fully intend to make sure that they're -- got ample food. We know where their hospitals are; we want to make sure they've got ample medical supplies. The life of the Iraqi citizen is going to dramatically improve. "
-President Bush March 6, 2003
The Scooter Libby trail was not about Joe Wilson's wife, it was about an administration that was
obsessed about making the case for going to war in Iraq and destroying anyone who attempted to cast any doubt on their credibility or question their "facts". It was a PR program of sand and fog to push this country into war. In the end President Bush, Vice President Cheney and the Neocons got their war in Iraq. The life of Iraqi citizens did not dramatically improve and yesterday 10 U.S. soldiers died in Iraq. Yes, there are consequences to lying.

A New Haven for illegals.

New Haven Connecticut has now become a sanctuary city for illegal immigrants thanks to it Mayor. Looks like Mayor Destefano was touched by the Christmas card demands by illegals in the area and gave them his Christmas present a little late. What did the Mayor give local New Haven taxpayers except the bill for the cost these illegals will place on local schools and social services.

What's that fishy smell at the Justice Department

The Bush Administration is trying to defend the firing of seven U.S. attorneys late last year. One of the laughable reasons they gave is because the attorneys did not carry out Bush's policies on certain issues. From the Washington Post:

"The White House approved the firings of seven U.S. attorneys late last year after senior Justice Department officials identified the prosecutors they believed were not doing enough to carry out President Bush's policies on immigration, firearms and other issues, White House and Justice Department officials said yesterday."

Bush's policy on immigration? What a laugh! There is no policy on immigration except to allow millions of illegal immigrants to continue to break the law. Even convicted illegal immigrant fugitives can hide in plain sight for months like Elvira Arellano with no action by the Department of Justice and the Bush administration. Of course the Justice Department under Bush's former legal waterboy Alberto R(aza) Gonzales seems to have plenty of time and resources to railroad U.S. border agents and other law enforcement officers protecting U.S. borders.

The Justice Department received several letters dating to 2005 and signed by more than a dozen California lawmakers, mostly Republicans, raising concerns about then-U.S. Attorney Carol S. Lam's approach to prosecuting immigration cases. Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, a Democrat, also wrote Gonzales in June, saying that the "low prosecution rates have a demoralizing effect on the men and women patrolling our nation's borders."

How about the millions of letters emails and phone calls the White House has received by U.S. citizens complaining about illegal immigrantion issues in our communities. Well, the fish rots from the head. As far as the lack of action by the attorneys on the problem on lack of enforcement on illegal immigration. It is the direct result of the lack leadership of the Attorney General Alberto R(aza) Gonzales. If there is anyone who should be fired it is Attorney General Gonzales!

What Marcela Sanchez is not saying.

You get used to the disingenuous arguments by pro illegal immigrant apologists like Marcela Sanchez in the Washington Post. Her current column argues for a race based no child left behind for Spanish speaking students. Because the Hispanic children are not becoming proficient in English as other immigrant groups. Oh and guess who will pay for the program. Here are some of the money quotes:

"Under the No Child Left Behind Act of 2002, schools are held accountable for these students and for how well and how quickly they become proficient in English."

Translation: The middle class taxpayers who pay the local school taxes are the ones who will pay for the Hispanic no child left behind program because they are required by the Federal Government whose failure to protect the borders has caused this increase in children who are not proficient in the English language because they or their parents were illegal. Hola suckers!

She then tries to slide this nugget and ignores the underlying fact:

"80 percent of students with limited English proficiency are in fact born and raised in this country; in other words, four out of five are U.S. citizens. "

Sanchez totally ignores that the parents of these children (aka anchor babies) are more than likely illegal immigrants. And once again ignores the burden of the costs for the illegals falls on the U.S. taxpayer.

Finally there is this Sanchez gem:

"Knowing what we do -- that having no high school degree greatly reduces our children's chances to succeed -- should we not apply the same determination that helped us get to this country to ensure that we send English-proficient children to school?"

Yep, the same determination to ignore United States immigration laws and enter the country illegally and be subsidised by the middle class U.S. taxpayers. Ms. Sanchez's column should be pit in the "Hola suckers!" file.

The Illegal Immigration Gang of Four .

"Closed-door meetings to draft the legislation have been going on for months with Sens. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., and John McCain, R-Ariz., and Reps. Luis Gutierrez , D-Ill., and Jeff Flake, R-Ariz"-Washington Post

Shades of Dick Cheney's energy policy meetings. The illegal immigration "Gang of Four" in Congress are attempting to push through an amnesty bill to allow illegal immigrants who have not respected U.S. laws to in fact magically become legal. If they succeed it will be just be another problem caused by the FAILURE of the Federal government to be swept under the rug and onto the backs of middle class taxpayers. And who are these clueless legislators turning to for help to ram this through Congress? President George (F.U.B.A.R.) Bush himself. You just know that the illegal immigration problem in our communities will not get better if these congressional thugs get their way.
